Herbal Cough Syrup Recipe (Honey, Calendula, Mullein, & More)

Most cough syrup formulas use elderberry, and although it is delicious, we wanted to make something featuring some of the other beautiful and supportive herbs available. This elderberry-free cough syrup recipe is thinner than most commercially available cough syrups due to the use of honey instead of sugar.

You will need the following ingredients:

¼ cup calendula flowers

¼ cup mullein leaf

2 tbsp osha root

1 tbsp wild cherry bark

1 cup water

¼ cup honey

In a small saucepan, combine all ingredients. Using low heat, bring to just below a simmer and maintain that temperature for 20 minutes. Stir occasionally. Remove from heat and strain using cheesecloth or a fine mesh sieve. Allow to cool prior to using syrup. Store in fridge, using 1 tsp at a time as needed.
