Our Quality

In selecting which herbs to carry, we carefully consider both the social and environmental impact of growing, harvesting, and drying the herbs, as well as the sustainability and conservation of those herbs which are wildcrafted. This applies to all of our products, whether harvested in Canada or overseas. Our inventory is strategically purchased, allowing us to achieve quick turnover and provide our customers with the freshest herbs possible.

All of our organic herbs are certified organic to Canada Organic, EU Organic, or USDA Organic standards, depending on the herb. Certifications are held through trusted bodies including Ecocert and Quality Assurance International. Each of our herbs undergoes extensive testing to guarantee that they are of the highest quality and potency. Organic herbs are tested by professional laboratory staff and consultants, who continuously monitor product quality. The type of examination varies depending on the specific herb. Our testing methods include organoleptic, macroscopy, and high-performance thin layer chromatography (HPTLC) to ensure identity and quality of our products.

We support fair trade practices and appreciate that many of the herbs which we carry are traditional plant medicines. Whenever possible, our wildcrafted items are purchased from local families and Indigenous Peoples who have a history of working with those herbs. We will not carry certain wildcrafted items if we feel that sensitive bioregions are being compromised by the collection of those herbs, or if harvesting those herbs may put that species at risk of becoming endangered.

We are a proud partner with the United Plant Savers, and an herbalist-led organization dedicated to protecting native medicinal plants in North America, preserving their native habitat, and ensuring an abundant and renewable supply of medicinal plants for generations to come.
